Who we are

The Sahara desert and adjacent Sahelian grasslands are home to a plethora of specially adapted species, and to people highly dependent on nature for their livelihoods and wellbeing in one of the most challenging environments on the planet.

Over the last two decades, Sahara Conservation has become a voice for this overlooked and under-resourced region, generating and sharing new information on the biodiversity of the Sahel and Sahara to guide decision making and forging collaborations for conservation action.

VISION

A Sahara where ecological processes function naturally, with plants and animals existing in healthy numbers across their historical range, benefiting all its inhabitants, and where support for its conservation comes from stakeholders across all sectors of society.

MISSION

To conserve the wildlife and ecosystems of the Sahara Desert and adjacent Sahelian grasslands for the benefit of nature and people.
