Building a Stronger Partnership between Tunisia’s General Directorate of Forests and Sahara Conservation

On April 24, 2025, Sahara Conservation met with Tunisia’s General Directorate of Forests (DGF) in Tunis to explore new opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions.
Participants included Mr. Ben Haha Mohamed Naoufel, Director General of Forests of Tunisia, Dr. Tim Woodfine, CEO of Sahara Conservation, Ms. Hela Guidara, Deputy Director at the DGF, and Ms. Violeta Barrios, Programme Manager at Sahara Conservation.
The discussions focused on tackling the challenges of sustainably managing protected areas, developing co-management approaches with local communities, and advancing the socio-economic development of protected regions. Strategic priorities were identified, with a strong emphasis on restoring biodiversity and innovating in the monitoring and management of vulnerable species.
This meeting marks a key step forward in building stronger partnerships to safeguard Tunisia’s rich natural heritage.
